As a city girl now living in a mountain community, I had to become accustomed to experiencing so many changes in a 24-hour period. The beginning of the day can begin with snow and ice. I wake up with panic realizing I may need to drive in snowy conditions only to be welcomed by an afternoon of blue skies, clear roads, and sunshine. I've also learned to change course and take a different route to avoid unnecessary stress.
As someone who works with amazing nonprofit organizations and small businesses, the coming of a new year can feel a bit like the uncertainty of driving into those snow-covered roads. However, if you map out your course it may become a bit less daunting. I avoid those "icy" and difficult paths that I know from past experiences and take routes that may be longer but more dependable.
Have you mapped out your course for 2023? Here are some points to get you started.
Set your calendar of events. It may change in the future but it does help to have something tentative in place. It's like a roadmap for the year.
Create an annual financial goal and break it into quarters. For non-profits and small businesses decide what you would like your profits to look like.
Assess programming. Do you need to change, improve, or remove programs that aren't benefiting your organization/business? Remember the "icy" road.
Get out and meet people. This is the time of year when communities host a variety of events. Take the time to attend mixers, support community-based functions, and reach out to past acquaintances.
Say Thank You. This is probably one of the most important and easiest things you can do. People like feeling appreciated!
Lastly, consider hiring a consultant/professional that can help. Rather than hiring a full-time employee consultants can offer advice, and assist with long-term projects or creative ways to help you reach your goals.

I hope you will be inspired to set your path and enter 2023 with confidence. Remember to avoid what you know doesn't work and try a new path.
